St George’s mixed hockey
The mixed (sexual) hockey club is one of the most successful and enjoyable clubs you can join here at the mighty St George’s. While many of you may be restricted to playing just the one sport (owing to other commitments such as work and the ‘lash’) this established club offers you the chance to have fun on a Sunday in a sport that is a little less intense than some of the others.
Whether you have played hockey before to a high standard or never held a stick we’ll welcome you ALL with open arms as long as you’re prepare for a chuckle and lots of banter! This club is officially the definition of fun (look in the dictionary) and fun we certainly have. We play in a league with most of the other medical schools in London and a few invitational sides, in addition to some friendlies with some of the other medical schools in the south Matches are played most Sundays at a local astro-turf and offer the perfect run-around with friends you might not usually play sport with.
On top of this there is an annual tour which undoubtedly rivals any other club for banter and amusement. From fancy dress to fancy chat, the mixed hockey tourist is guaranteed a good time. We attend NAMS each year, (a hockey tournament involving all the medical schools in the UK)where its safe to say George’s legends come into their own …. This year we certainly put the other medical schools to shame in Liverpool both on and off the pitch.
The softer side of George’s hockey we play light hearted games with a twist… including zulu starts, dead ants, and no season would be complete without Lenard! We don’t have training sessions just games.
So if you fancy joining the only club ‘where fraternisation is not only allowed, but actively encouraged’ or merely have questions then come see us at our fresher stall! We hope you’re looking forward to the season as much as we are!
Hockey Love,
