Hello! Welcome to the St George’s University Fencing Club. St George’s Fencing Club is a club set up by fencers, for fencers. Tired by the various problems of travelling outside Tooting for some decent fencing, and the hideous membership fees in other places, we decided to start one in our very own uni. Our aim is to introduce people to the sport, by providing equipment and training in a relaxed environment. Beginners are given training by our members, some of which are qualified coaches, provided during our sessions. Once a certain proficiency is reached, beginners are given the option to fence straight off, against experienced members, honing their skills. Competitions, tournaments, and events are also arranged where possible. We have all the necessary equipment for foil, epee and saber fencing. The training sessions are very informal and usually involves friendly sparring between the members. Fencing is a wonderful discipline. It brings together fitness, coordination, technique with the sword and most importantly the sense of achievement when the practised techniques can be used successfully in competition. Being rather social, we also have a number of social events throughout the year, helping to bring together club members on and off the piste. All are welcome: If you’ve never tried it before, why not give it a stab?! If you used to fence but never managed to get back into it, now is the time. If you are already a keen fencer our club will give you the opportunity to continue fencing in a convenient and cost effective way, even when the rest of the academic life seems to be getting on top of you.
